Hello Gilham Families,
Here is the link to the Back to School Newsletter that was sent out on August 19th.
School will start next week. Time to start thinking about school routines, bedtimes, and morning routines.
• First Days of School --
KINDERGARTEN: First day of school is Tuesday, September 8th, 7:55-1:10.
GRADES 1 – 5: First day of school is Wednesday, September 9th, 7:55-1:10.
• Kindergarten Smart Start – Kindergarten students do not start with an assigned classroom and class lists are built as we learn more about our kiddos. The first two weeks of kindergarten have staggered attendance with our Smart Start schedule.
All Kinder Students Attend: Sept. 8th -9th & Sept. 14th - 16th
Only Last Name A–L: Attend Thursday, Sept. 10th
Only Last Name M–Z: Attend Friday, Sept. 11th
No Kindergarten Sept. 17 & 18 (parent/teacher conversations)
Regular school schedule begins on Monday, Sept. 21st.

• Regular School Schedule -- The school schedule this year.
Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday starting at 7:55 and ending at 2:25.
Wednesday starts at 7:55 and ends at 1:10.
• Enrollment/Registration -- If you have enrollment/registration questions please contact the Gilham Office at 541-790-6200 or email Hollie at service_h@4j.lane.edu. You can also find the information on our Gilham website at https://gilham.4j.lane.edu/.
• School Supplies -- Below is a list of what we are needing students to bring with them to school this year. If you are wanting to donate to a classroom fund or to the school, please reach out to the office for more information.

1 Box of Tissue
$20 Suggested Donation for Supplies*
*This fee is based on an average need per student in a typical school year. Please contribute what you can. Every dollar goes towards providing supplies to every student at Gilham.
If you are able to contribute more, this will go directly toward the school supply purchases.

• Kinder Only Meet the Teacher is Friday, Sept. 4th at 2:00-3:00 – Gilham will host a Kinder Only Meet the Teacher event on Friday, September 4th from 2:00-3:00. This time if for Kinders only. The other grades will not be open during this time.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to view the building and to see classrooms before the First Day of School. Please plan on attending!
• Meet the Teacher for 1st - 5th grade is Tuesday, Sept. 8th at 2:00-3:00 – Gilham will host a Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, September 8th from 2:00-3:00, for grades 1st - 5th.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to view their new classroom and introduce themselves to their new teacher and classmates. Kinder Classrooms will not be open during this event. Please plan on attending!
• Class Assignments -- Classroom placement letters for grade 1st - 5th will be emailed to families the afternoon of Friday, September 4th, just prior to Labor Day weekend.
• How do I find my child’s bus stop? -- 4J’s Transportation Department has set up a system for finding your child’s bus stop and times. Use this link for information about bus stops – https://4j.lane.edu/busroutes
• Welcome Back! Try a New Way to Get to School – How’s your student getting to school this year? Walking, biking, rolling, riding the bus—there are so many fun ways to start the day with movement and independence. If your student is trying a new way to get to school, make it an adventure! Test out the route to school or the bus stop ahead of time—maybe even try a couple of different options to see which feels easiest and most fun. (Pro tip: the best walking or biking route isn’t always the same one you’d drive!)
Need help getting started?
Plan your route: Find your school’s walking and biking map at Safe Routes to School.
Ride the bus: See if your student is eligible for 4J busing and get route info at 4J Bus Routes. All 4J students can also get a free LTD Student Transit Pass at their school’s front office.
Try active travel with other Kinder Families: Incoming kinder families can sign up here for free gifts, maps, and support for walking, biking, rolling, or busing!
Learn to ride: Free, all-ages Learn to Ride events are happening August 30 and September 22. Learn more
Bikes and scooters are a fun and healthy way to get to school! But e-bikes and e-scooters are only legal for students 16 and up and e-motos aren’t legal at any age except on private property. Click here for more information.

Hola, familias de Gilham:
Aquí tienen el enlace al Boletín informativo de regreso a clases que se envió el 19 de agosto.

• Primeros días de clases --

• ¿Cómo encuentro la parada de autobús de mi hijo/a? -- El Departamento de Transporte del Distrito 4J ha creado un sistema para encontrar la parada de autobús y los horarios de su hijo/a. Utilice este enlace para obtener información sobre las paradas de autobús – https://4j.lane.edu/busroutes
• ¡Bienvenidos de nuevo! Prueben una nueva forma de llegar a la escuela – ¿Cómo va a llegar su estudiante a la escuela este año? Caminando, en bicicleta, en patineta, en autobús... hay tantas formas divertidas de comenzar el día con movimiento e independencia. Si su estudiante va a probar una nueva forma de llegar a la escuela, ¡conviértala en una aventura! Prueben la ruta a la escuela o la parada de autobús con anticipación, e incluso tal vez prueben un par de opciones diferentes para ver cuál se siente más fácil y divertida. (Un consejo experto: ¡la mejor ruta para caminar o andar en bicicleta no siempre es la misma que la que usaría en auto!)
¿Necesita ayuda para empezar?
Planifique su ruta: encuentre el mapa para caminar y andar en bicicleta de su escuela en Safe Routes to School (Rutas Seguras a la Escuela).
Tome el autobús: verifique si su estudiante es elegible para el transporte en autobús del Distrito 4J y obtenga información sobre las rutas en Rutas de Autobús del 4J. ¡Las bicicletas y los monopatines (scooters) son una forma divertida y saludable de llegar a la escuela! Sin embargo, las bicicletas y los monopatines eléctricos solo son legales para estudiantes de 16 años en adelante, y las minimotos eléctricas no son legales a ninguna edad, excepto en propiedad privada.
