Hello Gilham Families,
Teacher Appreciation Week – This week is Teacher Appreciation week. It is a great time to have your students send a quick note to the teacher. Help us celebrate the staff this week!
RAFFLE – We extended the raffle for one more day, today is the last day for the raffle. We are close to reaching our goal. Don’t miss out. There are 12 baskets worth $260-$310! You can also purchase popcorn for your classroom! Check it out here!
Gear Up for the Walk+Roll to School Challenge! – On May 8th, our school is participating in the Walk+Roll to School Challenge. We’re asking every family to use active transportation like walking, biking, scooting, skating or shared transportation like the bus or carpooling to improve our students’ health, learning and independence and to improve safety and traffic around our school and our impact on the environment! We have great prizes to encourage our students to participate!
If driving is your only option, you could “Park and Stride” by parking a short walk away from school and walking with your child the rest of the way. Students who ride the bus, carpool, or park and stride will still be able to enter the raffle for prizes.
Cell Phones/Smartwatches – If your child has a cell phone that they must bring to school, please know that it will need to be turned off during the school day and stored in their backpack. This includes smartwatches. Any phone calls/messages during the day need to be through the front office telephone.
If a student has a cell phone or smartwatch out of their backpack during the school day, the consequences will be as follows:
Upon the first infraction, the cell phone/smartwatch will be confiscated and held in the main office. Students may pick up their devices at the end of the school day.
If a second infraction occurs, a parent/guardian must come to the main office to pick up the device.
Multiple infractions can result in a permanent prohibition of a cell phone/smartwatch from school or a requirement that the student checks their phone at the office each day.
Parent and Family Engagement Survey – Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this SURVEY. Your feedback will be used to inform our efforts to continually improve our district, our schools, and our partnership with parents to help students succeed.
If you have more than one student attending school in Eugene School District 4J and have had a different experience for different students, please fill out a separate survey for each student. That provides the schools with information specific to each student’s individual educational experience.

Clear out clutter and create joy by donating a bike! – Shift Community Cycles is a source of bikes for many of our students for whom a bike would be otherwise out of reach. The nonprofit keeps costs down by collecting donated bikes on Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11am-6pm at their shop at 811 W 6th Ave in Eugene. Stop by or email a photo to info@shiftcc.org if you're unsure if your bikes are in good enough shape to be accepted. Thank you!
Breakfast & Lunch Menus – Breakfast and lunch menus are available on the 4J Menu Website. Make sure you filter to Gilham Elementary.
Regular School Schedule --
Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday starting at 7:55 and ending at 2:25.
Wednesday starts at 7:55 and ends at 1:10.
PTO Updates:
We still need a few more things purchased so we can host lunch on Wednesday for Teacher Appreciation Week as well as stock the staff break room for the rest of the year. We also need help with set-up and clean-up. Check out the list here if you are able to help in any capacity.
We want to give a huge THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers who helped make our school book fair a success! Because of you, we were able to provide our students with access to new books and exciting reading experiences.
Our final PTO meeting is Thursday, May 16th at 5:30pm in the library. We hope you can join us!
“A Night Out at Gilham” is happening on Wednesday, May 29th, from 5:30-7:30pm. Volunteers are needed - please sign up here if you are able to help. We are excited to bring the Gilham community together and celebrate our special students - watch for more details coming soon!

Hola familias de Gilham,
Semana de Agradecimiento a los Maestros: esta semana es la Semana de Agradecimiento a los Maestros. Es un buen momento para que sus alumnos envíen una nota rápida al maestro. ¡Ayúdanos a celebrar al personal esta semana!
RIFA – Extendimos el sorteo por un día más, hoy es el último día para el sorteo. Estamos cerca de alcanzar nuestro objetivo. No te lo pierdas. ¡Hay 12 canastas con un valor de $260-$310! ¡También puedes comprar palomitas de maíz para tu salón de clases! ¡Compruébalo aquí !
¡Prepárate para el desafío Caminar+Rodar a la escuela! – El 8 de mayo, nuestra escuela participará en el Desafío Walk+Roll to School. Estamos pidiendo a todas las familias que utilicen transporte activo como caminar, andar en bicicleta, patinete, patinar o transporte compartido como el autobús o el uso compartido del automóvil para mejorar la salud, el aprendizaje y la independencia de nuestros estudiantes y para mejorar la seguridad y el tráfico alrededor de nuestra escuela y nuestro impacto en el ¡ambiente! ¡Tenemos grandes premios para animar a nuestros estudiantes a participar!
Si conducir es su única opción, puede “Estacionarse y andar” estacionándose a una corta distancia de la escuela y caminando con su hijo el resto del camino. Los estudiantes que viajen en autobús, compartan auto o se estacionen y caminen aún podrán participar en la rifa de premios.
Teléfonos celulares/relojes inteligentes: si su hijo tiene un teléfono celular que debe traer a la escuela, tenga en cuenta que deberá apagarlo durante el día escolar y guardarlo en su mochila. Esto incluye relojes inteligentes. Cualquier llamada telefónica/mensaje durante el día debe realizarse a través del teléfono de la oficina principal.

¡Elimina el desorden y crea alegría donando una bicicleta! – Shift Community Cycles es una fuente de
