Parent Newsletter March 6th, 2023

March 6th, 2023

Hello Gilham Families,

This week is time to celebrate our Wonderful Classified Staff.  We would like to say thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to Gilham.  We could not function without you.  Thank you for all that you do to support our students, staff, and families.  We appreciate all that you do for our Gilham Community.

Kindergarten Orientation: Get Ready for Fall 2023– Do you know a child who will be 5 years old by September 1? It’s time to register them for kindergarten! Registering now will help your student and our school prepare for their first year.
Join us for in-person kindergarten orientation on Thursday, March 9th at 5:30 pm.
You’ll learn about our kindergarten program and enrollment process, meet our kindergarten teachers, and have an opportunity to ask questions.
We look forward to seeing you!

Check Lost & Found Before Spring Break – Remind your child to check the Lost & Found for missing items.

REPEAT – Learn to Ride a Bike – A Free, All Ages, Drop-In Event! – Click here for flyer
Thursday, March 9 stop by anytime between 4:00-6:00 pm, Bob Keefer Center, 250 S 32nd St, Springfield, OR
Do you or your child want to learn how to ride a bike? We’ll start with balancing and gliding without pedals or training wheels. Some will learn to pedal in one session, while others may need more practice to reach that final goal.
Join Willamalane; 4J, Bethel and Springfield Safe Routes to School programs; the City of Eugene; the City of Springfield and Shift Community Cycles for this fun event with pedal-powered smoothies, bike checks, information about bike share, and workshops for families and individuals of all ages on biking for transportation.
You don’t need your own bike to participate, but please bring a helmet and bike if you have one. Contact Safe Routes to School at (541) 228-0699 or jack.blashchishen@springfield.k12.or.us
with questions or to volunteer.

ACE Award Nomination Open Through March 31– What’s better than knowing that spring is around the corner? How about that ACE Awards nomination season is here! 4J is accepting nominations for the 2023 ACE (A Champion in Education) Awards now through March 31.

Nominating a valued educator for the ACE Awards is a wonderful way to honor the incredible talent and dedication of our amazing teachers, classified staff, administrators and volunteers.

We’re thrilled to announce that the 2023 ACE Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 4, 5–7 p.m., at South Eugene High School—the first in-person celebration since 2019!

Every nominee will be recognized, and one nominee in each category will be named ACE Champion and receive a $250 grant for a school or program of their choosing from Eugene Education Foundation. One nominee also may be recognized with a special lifetime achievement award.

Repeat – 4J Budget Priorities Family Input – The latest 4J Parent Newsletter included a section for families to give input on where you think 4J’s budget priorities should be.
Should 4J focus on lowering class sizes or should they focus on supporting initiatives from the Office of Equity, Inclusion & Instruction?
There are three surveys for families to give input, which are linked below for you to share your opinions:

Save the date – Jogathon will be on April 28th.  Watch for more information when we get closer.  If you are interested in volunteering, make sure you have completed the volunteer application.
