On Friday December 17th, 2021, elementary school kids all over 4J will be recognizing this day of kindness with kind words and CRAZY HAIR.

Participating is fun and easy. Just wear your craziest hairstyle to school on 12/17/21. If you want to share your kindness on social media, just snap a photo of your hair and post on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #crazyhairbecausewecare.

But wait… there’s more!!! Papa’s Pizza will be awarding the “BEST Hair” photo posted on social media using #crazyhairbecausewecare with a FREE Large Pizza of your choice!

Get creative and share your hair!

Pause Parking Morning Drop-Off Reminder — As with afternoon pick-up, the same rules apply for morning drop-off:

  • Drivers must remain in their cars at all times.
  • Drivers should pull forward as space becomes available.
  • Drivers should NOT stop in marked crosswalk areas.
  • When getting in or out of a car, students must use the door on the sidewalk side.

If drivers need to get out of the car, you should use a parking space and NOT the pause parking lane.

Repeat — Message From the Nurse: Tuesday, December 7th is Gilham’s annual school health screening. Lane County Dental Prevention will do a dental exam for all students and fluoride varnish application for those that returned the yellow permission form sent home earlier in the year.  The Oregon Lions will perform vision checks for all Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. If your student wears glasses or contacts, please have them bring those to school and wear them for the k-3 vision screening.  Both screenings will follow 4J Covid safety protocol and students will be spaced a minimum of 6 feet apart for dental care.  A white ½ sheet form will come home in their homework folder about 2 weeks after the clinic with your student’s results. If you are not interested in having your student be screened for dental, vision, or both, please let me know and include if they have had vision care within the last year.

Thanks!

Cathy Erickson, RN, erickson_c@4j.lane.edu.

Deadline Extended to Request Your Child’s Free LTD Pass! — 4J students will be able to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free by telling the bus driver that they are students until December 30th, 2021. At that point, students will need a student transit pass to continue riding for free.

Elementary and middle school students need parent/guardian permission to receive a student transit pass. To get a free LTD student transit pass, fill out the permission form at this link https://forms.gle/7dPEfb64DvNbSxPw7  or request a paper copy from the front office.

The passes are valid from September 1 of the current school year to September 30 of the following year and can be renewed by the school each year for ongoing free service.
