Hello Gilham Families,
School Hours —
Monday – Thursday starting at 7:55 and ending at 2:25.
Friday starting at 7:55 and ending at 1:10.
Doors open at 7:40.
Walk+Roll to School Day! — Wednesday, October 6th is our October Walk & Roll Day! We’re encouraging all students to walk, bike, carpool or ride the bus to school. If you live a long way from school, try parking a ten minute walk from school and walking the rest of the way. Older students can walk on their own. Younger students will need to walk or bike with an adult.
Our goal is to reduce traffic and pollution around our school and to promote physical activity for our students. Students who ride the bus are doing their part by participating in the biggest carpool of all! Teaching your child to use their body to get to school and other places builds their confidence, keeps them healthy.
Mask Wearing — Our students have done a great job of consistently wearing masks and taking appropriate mask breaks as needed.
A couple of reminders:
- Please provide two masks daily for your child so they can change them as needed. We have plenty of extra masks in the office and classroom for any students who may need one.
- Remember to wash your child’s masks if it is non disposable.
Parents, thank you for wearing masks during pick up and drop off, especially when 6ft of distancing can’t be maintained outside. Your efforts are appreciated as we work together to maintain safety for our school community. We appreciate your understanding and courtesy when friendly reminders are given.
Here is additional district information regarding mask wearing: https://www.4j.lane.edu/2021/09/face-masks-required-for-health-safety/
Street Parking — If you are parking on the street in the morning or afternoon, please do not block the crosswalks, driveways, or park on the yellow curbs.
Come Work for 4J! — 4J has many part-time and full-time school support positions open, including assistants in classrooms, cafeterias and school buildings, bus drivers and aides, custodians, nurses and more. Some positions offer part-time school day schedules or evening hours, to fit your life and responsibilities. You also can apply to work in a temporary position, or as a substitute.
Drop in to the virtual job fair (Zoom Link) on Thursday, Oct. 7, 5:30–6:30 p.m. or visit the 4J Virtual Job Fair webpage to learn about 4J’s school support job openings and what might be a fit for you.
Request Your Child’s Free LTD Pass! — There is such a thing as a free ride! All 4J students can ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Students have been able to ride the city bus for free by simply telling the bus driver that they are students. However, starting October 31, 2021, students will need a student transit pass to continue riding for free.
In 4J, elementary and middle school students will need parent/guardian permission to receive a student transit pass. To get a free LTD student transit pass, fill out the permission form at this link https://forms.gle/7dPEfb64DvNbSxPw7 or request a paper copy from the front office.
The student transit pass can be used to get anywhere within the LTD service area, including on weekends and after school. The pass can be used for the school commute, as well as for other trips. The passes are valid from September 1 of the current school year to September 30 of the following year and can be renewed by the school each year for ongoing free service.
